Dive Deeper:

He is good when there’s nothing good in us.

It is so important to remember that God’s faithfulness is constant, never-ending, and new every morning. That His faithfulness never runs out and His love never fails. Our faithlessness can never nullify the faithfulness of God. His faithfulness cannot be canceled.

In the words of Paul, “What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? By no means! Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written, “That you may be justified in your words, and prevail when you are judged.” “ (Romans 3:3-5)

Recently, I have found myself waking up in the morning dwelling on the faithfulness of our faithful Creator, and with it have reflected on my depravity and brokenness without it. Dwelling on the miracle of my salvation and coming to terms with my sin, I find myself praying, “Lord, help me to be faithful to you as you are faithful to me.”

The faithfulness of the Lord is NEW every morning, and so must our faithfulness to Him be. We certainly live in a productive and driven generation; this makes us tend to steal “bread” from yesterday even though God calls us to go to him for daily bread. We put our hands to work instead of closing them in prayer on Monday because we had a prayer meeting on Sunday. We leave our bibles in our drawer on Thursday because we served at church on Wednesday. The list could go on, but I’ll stop here. God tells us that He has storehouses of His goodness, love, faithfulness, mercy, and grace. Yet, He desires us to remain in Him, so He has chosen to give us only “daily bread.” He gives us just enough as we need. No more. No less. So that we will need him again tomorrow. Even though God gave me everything I needed yesterday, I certainly need Him again today.

Don’t believe the lie that the Israelites believed that they could live off of yesterday's bread. The Lord sent manna from heaven when the Israelites were wandering in the desert and told them to take everything they needed for the day and promised it would return the next. Instead of simply enjoying the faithfulness and goodness of God in the sustenance that He gave them, they doubted and spent their time storing up manna for the next day, and as the story goes, as they woke up the next day, the manna spoiled. God tells us not to be concerned about tomorrow, and He doesn't want us to live off yesterday’s Bible study. He wants to spend time with you today, and more than that, you NEED to spend time with Him today.

Lamentations 3:22-23 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

So, just as the Lord’s mercies are new every morning, so must our faithfulness be. Let God’s mercy, faithfulness, and peace, cause you to be faithful to Him daily. Seek Christ every morning, for He is our daily bread. If you were unfaithful yesterday, rest in God’s mercies that are new today, and be faithful today, tomorrow, and every day after that.
