Kind Words - Proverbs 16:24

Kind Words - Proverbs 16:24 - Proclamation Coalition

Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24 NLT

Add honey to coffee or tea, and you will taste the difference. Honey changes a drink completely. Kind words are the same. Like honey, kindness has substance; it’s tangible. When we receive kind words, we taste them in our soul. Our bodies are nourished. But why? Because our world is filled with poor-tasting words.

Our souls are coated in bad-tasting words from the enemy, other people, and even ourselves.

But still, if we aren’t tasting bad words, we’re often fed bland words. Today, the Biblical understanding of kindness is often replaced by the modern substitute: niceness. You know, those words that appear kind but hold no substance, no sweetness. Those words that sound sweet in the moment, but the taste quickly evaporates. The words don’t hold up. They appear sweet but are bland; they appear kind but are just nice.

But when someone offers a true and genuine kind word to us? When someone goes out of their way to intentionally feed our soul honey? Not only do these words taste sweet initially, but they also remain. Kind words hit our soul, peeling back the bad, coated taste our world fills us with. Not only that, but kind words expand throughout our body. We are rejuvenated. We are healed.

So be the one to offer a true and genuine kind word to someone. Intentionally look for that sweet word to share. The one that cuts through all the poor-tasting words we’re filled with. Offer honey to someone and watch their soul sweeten; their body rejuvenate.

The Spirit wants to speak kindness to others through you. Let Him.
