Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, Revelation 1:7a ESV
Procrastination lives in the hearts of all of us. Pushing off the right thing. Doing the easy thing. Choosing the shortcut at every turn. Unless… something we value is on the line. That is, when it comes to our comfort, pleasure, and ease. We spring into action and work hard to protect these things.
But what if what we think we want isn’t what we really need? What if every desire for comfort, pleasure, and ease is a misplaced desire in this world, rather than the next one…
We desire comfort in a world of fear. We desire pleasure in a world of pain. We desire ease in a world of toil. But every attempt for these longings proves to be a vapor. So, we need something real, something significant.
Jesus is coming back. He’s not taking us to float away in the sky. He is coming to reunite heaven and earth. Birth the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 22:1-3). To restore all things.
The same Jesus who was born into this world, took on a body, died a gruesome death; He is coming back with the same nail scars in his hands, and every eye will see him. He is no vapor. He is real, even more than a paycheck, a new house, or more time in your schedule. The return of Jesus has the potential for concrete consequences or concrete contentment. So how will you respond? With procrastination? With a ready heart and watchful eyes?
Every real and good desire will be fulfilled in him. So resist passivity. Live holy. Look to the clouds. Live like the King is coming, because He is.
Maranatha, “come, Lord Jesus.”
