“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!” Psalm 150:6

There’s this idea that the name of our God, YHWH, mirrors the sound of our breath. That with every inhale and exhale, we’re either consciously or unconsciously worshipping His name. 

Inhale: Yah…

Exhale: weh… 

Whether or not it’s literally true, it’s completely changed my heart of worship.

You see, if God is the author and sustainer of our every breath, then every breath is evidence of Him. An act of worshipful surrender to Him. 

This has caused me to realize my worship doesn’t have to be confined to a moment or a song. It’s not confined to what’s carved out in my morning routine. It’s the constant posture of my life. I breathe without trying or thinking. And yet, it’s worship. And how much more when my heart is in tune and abiding with God’s heart. 

As I sing, I praise Him.

As I breathe, I depend on Him. 

As I work, I rely on His strength. 

It’s not about how we worship, it’s who we worship. Jesus.
