“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!”
Psalm 150:6
There’s this idea that the name of our God, YHWH, mirrors the sound of our breath. That with every inhale and exhale, we’re unconsciously worshipping His name. Yah… weh…
Whether or not it’s literally true, it’s completely changed my worship and heart.
If God is the author and sustainer of our every breath, then every breath is evidence of Him. An act of worshipful surrender to Him. I breathe without trying or thinking. And yet, it’s worship. How much more when my heart is in tune and abiding with God’s heart.
This has caused me to realize my worship doesn’t have to be confined to a moment or a song. It’s not confined to what’s carved out in my morning routine. It’s the constant posture of my life.
As I sing, I praise Him.
As I breathe, I cry out to God.
As I sleep, I surrender to Him.
As I work, I rely on His strength.
Worship isn’t just in my morning devotional or during the Sunday setlist. My whole life belongs to Him. My breath is worship.
That is just a foretaste of the kind of worship we’ll pour out in eternity, where all creation joins in. It’s eagerly awaiting that day when all things are made new.
Sing to the Lord a new song, for if you don’t, the rocks will cry out in your place.
It’s not about how you worship, it’s who you worship. Jesus.
Let everything that has breath PRAISE THE LORD!
