Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Luke 12:27
Jesus stood before a large crowd, everyone leaning in, eager for Him to speak His next words.
I imagine Him just stopping for a second, breathing in, and looking around at all the people. He doesn’t rush as He lifts His eyes and notices some birds flying overhead. He says, ‘Look at these birds. They’re not planting seeds or gathering crops, but the Father still feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they are?’
He lets it sit for a moment, as His eyes catch some wildflowers growing in the dirt. Not planted, not tended, just wild and alive. He points at them and says, ‘Look at those flowers. They don’t make their own clothes, but even King Solomon in all of his glory wasn’t even dressed like one of these.’
He looks back at the people with a concerned look and says, ‘Why is your faith so small?...’
“If God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you.” Luke 12:28a (NLT)
The same God who feeds the birds overhead and clothes the wildflowers springing from the dirt sees you. Nothing is too big for Him to move, and yet, nothing is too small for Him to notice. He rules over all, and moreover, He cares for the smallest details of your life.
So today, lift your eyes like Jesus did. Notice the birds, the flowers, the ordinary things that are a testament to our faithful and extraordinary Gardener. If He so carefully tends to them, how much more will He care for you? So much more.
Consider the lilies. Trust the Gardener.
